Eureka Cimarron 15 Degree Mummy Sleeping Bag

Eureka Cimarron 15 Degree Mummy Sleeping Bag

Rated to 30 degrees Fahrenheit, the regular-sized Eureka Copper River mummy-style sleeping bag features a bag-within-a-bag design, which keeps cold air from the outside from getting through and warm air on the inside of the bag from escaping. The inner layer of the bag is cut smaller than the outer layer to create a consistent thickness of insulation throughout the bag, which prevent thermal leaks from forming. The trapezoidal foot section is angled to allow for the foot’s natural sleeping position. It has a fully adjustable contoured hood. Other features include a two-way, self-repairing zipper, inside stash pocket, fleece pillow pocket, zipper thermometer and compression stuff sack. This sleeping bag is filled with Eureka’s proprietary 7-hole slickened, polyester Thermashield fiber fill, which provides maximum insulation at the best value possible. Each Thermashield fiber strand contains 7 tunnel-like holes that run the length of the strand. Each of these holes traps air inside it’s passageway creating dead air space that efficiently retains heat to keep you warm.

3 Stars warm but huge
This sleeping bag is warm when I used it in yellow stone park. I will say at lease it is good for using in 30 degree. The only problem is that it is really big to restore. It’s ok with people who carries it with vehicle but hiking backpack.

4 Stars Excellent Choice
This sleeping bag strikes the balance between cost and quality. I’ve slept snug as a bug in many different setting in this pack, from just under freezing to about 65F. The fleece pillow pocket is great for a folded up jacket, and the thermometer on the zipper is a nice touch. It’s lightweight and compactable, perfect for backpacking. I plan on using it into the spring and summer, where it should be perfect for the cool evenings on the mountainside.

4 Stars Should have bumped up a size.
I ordered what they reccomended for me and felt cramped. Other than that, it works great. So if you order, you might consider ordering a size up.

2 Stars Bulky
I ordered this bag hoping it would compress easily to a size small enough to fit in my hiking pack. I was a little disappointed with the bulky size. It was also pretty heavy. I also had some problems with the zipper sticking and the thermometer was missing from the zipper. This bag never made it to a campsite- I sent it back to Amazon yesterday. I am sure it would have been a warm bag, but I spent the extra money to get an ultra lightweight bag that fits into a well-designed compression sack.

4 Stars Great for the price…
Bought this sleeping bag for a backpacking trip along the Alabama Pinhoti trail. It worked beautifully for the sub-50-degree weather. I’m a 5′9″/190lbs man, and I fit comfortably in the regular-sized bag (with 6″-8″ of extra length). There’s just enough room in the width for me to roll over, but not much more than that — of course, mummy bags like this aren’t intended to be (nor should they be) too roomy.

It’s not the lightest bag out there, nor the most compact. You could probably find a North Face, Marmot, or Mountain Hardwear bag that would certainly outperform this sleeping bag. -But, for the price, this bag is very hard to beat. Eureka makes good, quality products (I own a $300 Eureka tent that lives up to it’s price), and this bag met up to the quality I’ve come to expect from Eureka.

If you’re expecting actual 15-degree weather, you might look into a warmer bag — this one will certainly keep you from freezing at those temps, but it likely won’t keep you all warm & cozy.

Would I recommend this bag to a backpacker on a budget? Most definitely. :-)

Kelty Redtail 1800 Backpack

A veratile daypack for any activity

4 Stars Great Day Pack
Great bag! Bought this bag when I moved to Germany to have with me on day trips and outings. Also use it daily as a gym bag and hiking bag.

PROS:

1) Well thought out compartments–it’s got a main pocket with a built in flap and opening for a hydration system, a middle pouch with conveniently sized and placed pockets, a zip/mesh enclosure and a key keeper tab. Outer pocket has a vertical zip on the left side that allows access to the pouch without removing the pack from your back. Includes two mesh side pockets for bottles or loose, frequently used items.

2) Other features–Padded ergonomic shoulder pads are adjustable at bottom and top to accommodate larger, bulkier loads and comfortable placement on your back. Main pocket has a stiff wire frame to keep the bag rigid enough for storage of documents, books or a laptop with undue stress to object. Sturdy, heave duty grab strap on top makes maneuvering the bag in and out of a passenger seat in a car easy. Webbing on the outside of the outer pocket is awesome for tying down large or bulky items (I have a cheap aluminum karabiner that I connect my running shoes to the bag via the webbing). Includes a web lacing gromets (?) for attaching a rolled sleeping bag or pad on the bottom of the bag and an “ice axe” loop.

CONS:

1) Waist strap cannot be stowed or removed for daily light use which, to me, is very slightly annoying.

2) The extra strap material is very long and hard to stow. Would have liked to have Velcro stowage loops on the straps.

Overall this bag is well worth the money. I’d recommend it for anyone who needs a good, solid bag for light to medium duty. Great for day hikes, day trips to anywhere, and will make a great overnight camping bag for anyone into over night hiking/camping trips.

5 Stars Everything I hoped for
You never know when you buy something on-line if it is really what you want. This backpack met or exceeded my every expectation. The ease of ordering and the very fast delivery were added pluses.

1 Star Not what I ordered
I ordered the curry/charcoal for my son’s birthday. When it came it was black! We contacted customer service and they were supposed to send a new one. They emailed a return receipt, but never sent the new one. We called AGAIN and this time we were AGAIN sent a black backpack! I don’t think I will order anything but books from amazon again!!!

4 Stars Great small pack for day hikes.
So long as you bear in mind that this is just a daypack, it’s great. It’s about the size of the average backpack you see around town. The back is vented making it more comfortable on hot days and it has a place to put a bladder from your Camelback. It seems pretty well made, as I’ve experienced with other Kelty products. (I have an extra large duffel and a 3 man, 3 season tent of theirs.)

I’ve only worn it on one hiking trip so far, up to Chasm Lake on Long’s Peak in Colorado. I carried food and emergency gear for three along with a water purifier and found it comfortable.

I found it on sale for less than forty dollars, which probably helps greatly in my appreciation of it. At seventy, I think any daypack would be way over priced.

Kelty Corona 20 Double Sleeping Bag Green Chili

Perfect for couples who prefer to share a bag, the Kelty Corona 20 Degree Double Wide sleeping bag provides expansive room at the feet, hips and shoulders. The Corona’s 20 degree rating and double wide insulated hood make it a great choice for 3-season camping. The Corona 20 Degree Double Wide sleeping bag utilizes Kelty CloudLoft synthetic insulation. Unlike down fill, Kelty CloudLoft retains most of its insulating capabilities even when wet, making the Corona 20 Degree Double Wide a good choice for camping in wet climates or foul weather. The shell of the sleeping bag is made of polyester ripstop and a polyester taffeta liner provides internal comfort. Two-layer offset quilt construction eliminates cold spots, keeping outside air from reaching the inside of the Corona 20 Degree Double Wide sleeping bag. This type of quilt construction is durable and maintains its shape and structure after many uses. An insulated draft tube stitched behind the two-way locking zippers further ensures that cold air is banished from the interior of the bag. The Corona 20 Degree Double Wide’s full-length hood increases warmth and can be modified to form two separate mummy-style hoods for colder conditions. A zippered foot vent provides ventilation on warmer nights. The Kelty Corona 20 Degree Double Wide fits up to 6′0″ and includes a cotton storage sack.

5 Stars Super Comfy…Super Warm
Very good bag for the money. My girlfriend and I just used this on a fall camping trip in Northern Minnesota. Temps got down into the low 30’s, kept us both warm, not so much as a chill. Highly recommended.

4 Stars Just right.
I am very happy with this bag. We have a tent trailer, it provided enough warmth in the Tetons and Yellowstone during July’s cool nights. It also provided some extra padding for an extremely hard mattress with plenty of room for snuggling. My only gripe is I wish it had pockets.

5 Stars Very comfortable sleeping bag
This was a very comfortable sleeping bag. Used it in 20 degrees in a tent and it kept both of us very warm. It was comfortable and very cozy bag. It has a zipper on both sides so you don’t have to wake the other person up trying to get out of the sleeping bag. It also has two pull ties on each side on the bottom and top to pull help to bunch up the top or bottom to bring the top and bottom edges of the bad closer to you to keep you warm. The lower part that extends past the normal part of the sleeping bag can be used as a pillow if needed. If not it fits a normal size pillow very nicely and holds it in once place. There is a also a snap on the middle top half of the sleeping bag with a loop on the back to bring up the back on to the snap for additional warmth on bringing the bag closer to you on those really cold nights. Over all I was very worried about a double bag and being cold. I brought additional blankets not trusting such a big bag. But this sleeping bad was better then I could have ever hoped and did not even use the additional blankets. It comes with a big bag to for storage looks like a mini seabag. If you can’t get the bag rerolled it stuffs very nicely back in the bag.

4 Stars Great sleeping bag for car camping
This bag works out great for couples who like to go car camping. It’s very warm and very roomy. It’s also nice to have the hood cinch up like a single mummy bag. The hood is also good for providing a nice place to put a pillow and keep it off the floor.

The only drawback is that with the big opening at the top it can be a little drafty, negating the warmth of the thickness of the bag. Also, it’s waaaay to big to carry with you while backpacking. When stuffed in its sack, it’s about the size of a large garbage bag. This is fine for car camping, but unsuitable for carrying it any real distance.
