About Elliptical Trainers
Elliptical trainers represent the next wave of advancement in low-impact cardiovascular exercise machines and continue to grow in popularity. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips.

Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home.

Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won’t strain sensitive joints.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Good stuff
Works very well. I did buy and use the white lithium grease as others suggested. Squeaked at first. So I just put more of that grease in the handle joints and it fixed it right up.

5 Stars using it for more than a year
Bought it via amazon.com and I am using it for the past 1 year.. Good product.

4 Stars Great for Us
SETTING

My boyfriend and I share the Elliptical Trainer, which we have endearingly renamed simply, “The Machine.” We live in a two bedroom apartment, and have The Machine setup in the spare bedroom with our computers/office stuff. Being in a second floor apartment we are concerned about the noise pollution we cause to our neighbors below. They claim that they can hear The Machine in use when there’s not other noise in the room. A casual conversation or hum of a fan easily overcomes the sound.

CONS

It was hard to put together. The instructions were fine, but it can take multiple sets of hands to really get it together at some steps. I would like it if you could set up a profile with your information so that you could toggle more quickly between weights/settings for different users, but this is a minor thing to me. The screen can be hard to see in dimlight, but this is also a minor issue.

PROS

The Machine seems very solid, does not squeak (we’ve only had it a couple of weeks and did add some lithium grease to moving parts during construction), and has a smooth motion to it. I am 5′6″ and my boyfriend is 6′1″; we both use The Machine with no problems. It is easy to move around and doesn’t take up all that much space. It’s quiet to use as well.

I like that there are multiple programs, settings, and levels to choose from. You can workout for a specific amount of time or set a calorie goal and go for that instead. The User’s Manual has a lot of good information on it beyond just use of The Machine. There are also healthy lifestyle and eating tips.

OVERVIEW

I would definitely recommend The Machine to friends looking for an Elliptical Trainer. For the price (and free shipping from Amazon) it’s a great deal on a well built piece of equipment. Now to go burn off a few more calories with it…

4 Stars Love my Schwinn 430 Elliptical!
I meant to give this product 5 stars but missed the 5th somehow. My daughter and I put the 430 Elliptical together in nothing flat. I have one problem with a bolt fitting into a leg piece but am working with Schwinn to get a new part. Their customer service is top notch.

This unit is a very smooth ride. Even my husband starting using it and lost 7 lbs in 2 weeks. I would highly recommend this elliptical for home use.

5 Stars Great price for a good workout
After much research it was decided that this was to be the birthday present for my wife (no, I wasn’t sending her a message, she asked for one.)

I’m no exercise guru but this elliptical feels right. It is sturdy, smooth, and fairly compact. The size was important as it is in our bedroom. It fits nicely in a previously open area, and isn’t an eye sore.

Assembly was just under 2 hours with both of us. Instructions were excellent, and my biggest complaint is that Schwinn provided no spare parts, so I ended up 1 washer short somehow. No big deal.

My only other complaint is that the electrical cord is really short, so it barely reaches the outlet - that was some poor planning.

Completely satisfied with the purchase and I’d recommend to anyone searching for a fair priced elliptical that should last quite a long time.

About Recumbent Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don’t take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

The term recumbent literally means “lying down.” Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars great recumbent bike
I was expecting quality from Schwinn and was not disappointed! It is built solid and works great at least for an average person. Whisper quiet and simple to operate. It is heavy - so be sure to get assistance during assembly. The computer is simple to operate, and turns off automatically. The seat is very comfortable and adjustable. A little expensive but worth it.

4 Stars One sturdy machine
Got the bike about a week ago. Assembly is pretty straight forward and easy. Surprised on how sturdy and heavy duty the machine is. Pretty easy to use and set up. Very quiet, only thing is I wished it was not a plug in machine. Have to place the bike by a plug, other than that the machine is great.

5 Stars Quality and value
I’ve had the Schwinn 230 for 6 months and it has been great. I have a bad back and arthritic knees and this machine has really helped me. It’s a great bike for the price. I did not have any shipping problems and assembly was fairly easy. This was a great purchase!

4 Stars bike
good solid inexpensive exercise bike. It’s not the professional model you get in a gym but so far works well at home for what I want it for. Easily assembled if you have some mechanical ability. Good Buy.

5 Stars So far, so good
I found most of the reviews on the Schwinn 230 recumbent bike to be spot on!

- UPS deliver was prompt but the packaging was damaged - the box was ripped open. Fortunately, no damage to the bike and no parts lost.

- Took about 2 hours to unpack and assemble. My husband helped me carry the base of the bike from the garage into the basement, and 90 minutes later I plugged the bike in and it worked perfectly. I did all the assembly myself with the tools provided.

- LCD panel works fine in our lighting. Glad I didn’t spend the extra to upgrade to the back-lit panel.

- The bike is quiet, smooth, stable, and comfortable. So nice to use a product that delights!

- I’m 5′4″, and have no problem reaching the pedals.

- And yes, the seat wobbles just a bit. Not an issue, as much of the exercise equipment I’ve used has the same behavior.

So far, I really like this bike.
