4 Stars Need a translator for the directions!
Ok, this is my first road bike, and I like it a lot…now that I have it built. The directions that come with the bike are p o o p! There are things not specified in the directions that are crucial in order to put the bike together. Like the lever that has to go through the front wheel in order to attach it to the front. Also, you have to install the front brake (which in not hard once you know what to do) that the directions presume that it is already installed. Just un-screw the end off of the bold (you can do this with your hands), and put it through the hole in the front of the frame, and tighten appropriately.

Besides the assembly, this bike rides great! I took it on a 23-mile ride the next day and absolutely no problems with it. Also, it is super light! My friends own GMC Denali bikes that are a size smaller and I own the large size in the Schwinn Prelude. There is no comparison that the Schwinn weighs significantly less. In conclusion, this bike is awesome!

2 Stars Not What I Expected
I had seen of lot of my comments in other reviews, but am nonetheless disappointed. For an item averaging above 4.5 stars, this bike does not meet expectations.

The shifters are indeed in an awkward position, and the brakes are only in the lower handles, which is also annoying. Most reviewers comment on being at least 5′9″, and I’d add…don’t buy this bike if you’re 6′ or taller. The petals and most of the time, my feet, hit the ground if you turn sharply.

Furthermore, the gear range (14) isn’t wide enough…the lower gear isn’t enough to climb steep hills and the highest gear isn’t enough to sustain pedaling once you have some real speed.

Overall, I learned I shouldn’t have been so cheap to buy a bike. If you want one, spring for the $400+ bike. The extra $200+ or so is well worth your happiness and willingness to ride the bike.

5 Stars very well
i bought this bike recently. it is a great bike and rides real smooth compared to older road bikes. the parts seem high quality and their easy to adjust if needed especially the brake calipers. it took me just a little bit to put it together, but thats because i took my time. if you purchase this bike you will not be disappointed. i haven’t rode a bike in years and one of the reasons was to get this bike was to help my diabetes. my first rode trip i was trying to take it easy and end up riding 14 miles. it felt really good i couldn’t wait for my next ride.

5 Stars Love this bike
I had no issues with the instructions and I love the bike. I have added Aerobars, gel padding for the handlebars and a new seat but other than that, this bike is very nice for the money. I’ll be using it in an Olympic Triathlon in Sept.

4 Stars Decent bike for the price
So I got this bike for a birthday present. Shipping was a lot quicker than I thought it was going to be. The bike came 3 days after ordering on the free standard shipping. It came in a huge box, basically the size of me. The bike came partially assembled. The back wheel and back brake were already attached to the bike frame. I had to attach the front wheel, front brake (which was a huge pain), and the gear shifters onto the handle bars. I also elected to put the front and rear reflectors on.

I brought the bike to a bike shop that one of my friends recommended to get a complete tuning before I even tried to ride the bike. When I picked it up they said there were a few of things wrong with it. The front brake was working but was very lose and was sticking. The guy who did the tune up recommended I replace the front brake eventually. He also mentioned something about some of the gears not working properly. But he fixed everything and replaced the front brake cable. The front brake is still a little loose, and I will replace it eventually. While I was at the bike shop I also picked up a water bottle holder which they attached to the frame and a one of the holding pouches which go under the seat.

So I tried out the bike for the first time. All the gears worked properly and smoothly. The strap pedals are a little annoying. You basically have to start peddling with one foot in one of the peddles, and then try and catch your foot in the other one while moving. I may look into replacing the pedals to ones without straps. The front brake was sticking a little bit but it works. Back brake works fine. I was able to get good speed with it. The ride was smooth. After about 30-40 miles on the bike, I got my first flat tire. The back tire went flat from what I’m 99% sure was a puncture flat (basically I hit a bump too hard). This is the most common problem to happen to bike riders so I’m not looking to much into it. I took the bike to another bike shop to get it fixed. It took all of 5 minutes to do, nothing terrible. I am definitely looking into getting some spare tubes and a flat tire kit because this particular one happened at a very inopportune time.

Overall I’m pretty happy with the purchase. For a little over 200 bucks, its definitely a deal. Some of the components are a little shoddy, but you can’t expect to get the same quality as a 600-700 dollar bike. My first replacement will probably be the front brake since there is no way to solve the problem of it being slightly loose. I would definitely recommend getting the bike tuned right after you put it together at a bike shop. [...] Do some research, call around to local places to get prices. You could end up saving a lot of money. One of the places I called, which happened to the be the closest to my house, was a 70 dollar full tune up.

UPDATE 6/6/09: Well I have had this bike for about 3 months now. I took this bike on a 42 mile bike tour through the rain and it made it through. Although the brakes started to stick about half way through. The brakes are the biggest problem on this bike and have been a nuisance since I got the bike. My back brake is basically shot. I think it’s something with the wiring. I’m gonna havta bring the bike in to a shop yet again to see what the problem is. The brakes are the only thing I can really complain about. Everything else has held up fine.

Schwinn Adjustable Kickstand

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars A fine piece of metal for the price, but function is lacking
For the price this was worth a try. It is a heavy little kick-stand, but in the end it just doesn’t work that well. The bike balances very delicately in its three-point position when using this stand, but the ground needs to be level and smooth. Forget parking it on a hill.

5 Stars easy to install, works well
I bought this to install on my son’s bike after removing the one that wore out. The bike was free, and needed a few things to bring it up to the operating level I wanted to provide for him. I got a few brake cables, a set of pedals, and this. It was super easy to install and setup because of the adjustable length. Even has a little rubber cap on the bottom that will help it stay in one place better (think slippery surfaces and metal vs. rubber). Just make sure you have enough knowledge on how to install, and know the intended bike frame has the appropriate space to place it.

3 Stars Works well but looks a little clunky
If you’re putting this on an adult bike just buy a standard size rather than the adjustable, there’s no point in it being adjustable.

5 Stars Best kickstand by far for a kids 16″ bike
I went to several stores looking for kickstands for my daughters Magna 16″ bikes. This was the only one that:

1. Looked like quality out of the box. (I think the shaft is actually powder-coated, the finish is so nice).

2. Inexpensive.

3. VERY SMOOTH action up and down - easy for kids. Some stands require adult-style kicks to make the stand go up. This one doesn’t.

The adjustment slots (maybe 20) give you a lot of flexibility but as I said, the 16″ bike is the smallest this will go on.

It tilts my daughters Magna bikes at maybe a 10 degree angle from vertical. Not enough to keep it up in a stiff wind outside - but enough to keep it from falling and crashing into the cars in the garage.

1 Star it lasted only a few month
It is ugly and heavy. The connecting part for adjusting the length is very loose. I had to tighten it every time I ride my bike. After a few month, I ended up finding out that the bottom part was gone when I got back home. Schwinn Adjustable Kickstand

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Damaged items
I bought the bike as a valetines Day gift for my girlfriend. First, I noticed how the box was damaged, upon opening it I saw the tires were bent. Now I have to coordinated with someone to get the bike back for an exchange. Maybe after that process, I’ll get to enjoy it, but as of now, it’s a pile of parts sitting in the garage

4 Stars Great Platform for a Low End Tandem Bike
Looked at lot of $1500 plus tandem bikes before deciding to order the Mongoose. The basic bike platform is a good one. The wheels and gear train are sound. For the ~$350.00 price, there is a lot of accessory room to fill before one would jump up to the next price category. Recommendations: OEM tires and tubes are junk. First thing I did before letting the bike off of the assembly stand was to upgrade to thorn resistant tubes and “no-flat” strips. Put them inside of Contental Town and Country 26″x2.1 tires. Wife and I then rode up the driveway for a short ride and promply decided the handlebars were way too low. Unless one is about 5′ tall or Quasimoto porportioned, way too much hunch back involved. Upgraded the front stem to an adjustable one, and the rear bars to 5″ lift ones. Should be OK with the formentined modifications.

5 Stars Excellent Value for the money spent
My wife wanted us to purchase a tandem bike. I ride quite a bit but my wife does not due to a balance problem. I was not crazy about this but I bought the Mongoose Wanderer. I have been plesantly surprised!

The bike was shipped and arrived in perfect condition, no damage and all pieces were received. I assembled in less than an hour but I have a fair amount of experience in working on bikes and I have a repair stand and a good supply of tools. Brakes required some adjustment as did the front and real derailleurs. Park Tools “Blue Book of Bicycle Repair” is very helpful with this.

The ride of a tandem is better than I expected. I’ve only ridden one tandem in the past and it was less than pleasant. We rode in a charity ride recently (appx 18 miles) and the bike worked perfectly! We got quite a few comments and most were very surprised at the low price paid for this bike.

The quality is very good for the money spent on the bike. Frame is excellent and total weight is not bad; appx 39 lbs. I did replace the knobby tires with higher-pressure smooth tires. (Much better ride.)Got a different seat for the wife. Seats seem to be more of unisex seats, which is understandable, mine was fine.

There are a few other changes I plan to make but nothing big. All in all, I’m very happy with purchase. And most important, my wife really enjoyed the ride!

3 Stars Good starter tandem
If you’re an avid cyclist, you already know that you can NOT purchase a high quality bike (let alone a tandem) for this price. However, if you looking for a relatively low priced introduction to tandem biking, this item is a pretty good place to start.

One tip: Be sure to have a metric Allen wrench set on hand when the bike arrives, or it’s a trip to the hardware store.

5 Stars A lot of fun, great price on Amazon
I purchased this for my 3 kids, 16, 14 and 11. It is the same size as the MX 500, but has a more powerful electric motor. The kids and I are having fun around the yard. We have not used it on any strenuous trails. It slows a little when pulling my 150 lbs up the steep grass hill in our yard, but otherwise runs great. It is easy to handle and fun. Just remember an electric motor has steady power output, so it is hard to get a real slow start for beginners - it tends to lunge forward as soon as the throttle is applied. The kids got used to it quickly, but it was tricky for the nervous one.

The box arrived on time, but was too heavy (approx 100 lbs) for the delivery driver to do more than get it out of the truck. Fortunately I was home and decided to assemble it right there. Assemble went well, but I needed an extra set of hands to hold the bike in position. Both the front wheel and handlebars need to be mounted, which was a little awkward. All tools are included, but the instructions were not very clear. The stickers were not put on well, but structurally and mechanically it is well designed and built. Overall we are really happy with it!

5 Stars Nice machine for my 9 year old
This is a well-built machine. My 9 year old son loves riding it. It’s plenty fast. Make sure you ride with a helmet, closed toe shoes, and long sleeves and pants. My son took a spill on the pavement when he hit a water puddle, and got pretty scraped up because he had shorts and a t-shirt on. I’m 220 pounds, and I took it for a quick spin and found it carried me quite handily. It’s easy to learn to ride, and you can ride for about 30 minutes total on a charge. It comes mostly assembled. It took me about 45 minutes to complete the assembly. Instructions are poor, but it’s easy to figure out from the pictures. This is worth the money, and I would recommend it.

5 Stars Razor MX650 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike
Overall very happy with purchase. Assembly was quick and easy. 14 year old is enjoying it, as well as 11 year old brother. 14 year old will be looking to upgrade size and speed soon. Lasts more than an hour per charge. Best to run battery down to 3% regularly before recharging fully (generally overnight for full charge).

4 Stars O.K. product
It seems well built as far as durability goes. I can’t give it 5 stars because there is a glitch in the electrical system. After riding for 25 minutes or so, the motor will cut in and out. There’s a battery indicator on the handlebars that still shows full when this occurs so battery life seems good as far as I can tell. Customer service promptly sent me a new controller, I haven’t had a chance to replace it yet so I don’t know for sure if that’s the problem, but they shipped it out right away without any hassle and I had it in about a week.

5 Stars the best bike ever!
i bout this bike with my money for 399.99 beacuse my cusin had one and i rode it.it sounds slow 17 mph when i rode it it the most fun ive ever had.it felt like it went 30 mph its not loud at all.the first time it charges for about 15 hours do that for a couple days then 10 then 8 and stay that way.im ten and about 4,8 and it fits me perfect.thank u amazon for puting the price sssssssssssssssssssssssssooooooooooooooooooo low.and razor for making the best bike ever.

Razor MX500 Dirt Rocket Electric Motocross Bike

5 Stars Great Dirtbike!!!
Just bought this for my 11 year-old daughter. Took about half an hour to get it together! And then off she went! She said it was the best present ever. Even my 13 year old son loves it!! Couldn’t be happier!

4 Stars My son loves this!!!!
My 8 year old son loves this dirt bike and he is the envy of the neighborhood kids. He has had it for about a month now and rides it every day all day; and we have no complaints. Be aware, this bike is pretty fast and should not be purchased if your child is not comfortable on two wheels. It was easy to put together and it pretty sturdy. It is a bit heavy but has a very sturdy kickstand. I would highly recommend this product.

5 Stars Awesome!
I was nervous about buying this bike for my 10 year old’s birthday, especially since the recommended age was much higher than his, but he loves it! Actually, we all love riding it (carries up to 175 lbs!). It being electric also make me nervous, but it’s awesome! I totally recommended it. I do think that he would have been too big for the smaller size motorbike recommended for his age, this one fits him perfect and the amount of power is not too much for him to handle.

3 Stars Fun for kids 8-18. Back tire gears wear FAST.
My son enjoys riding this dirt bike.

He got it for christmas, and rode it for about 1-2 months before it broke.

Evidently, the back wheel has the gears built inside.

When they go, the only way to repair it (since it’s all welded shut) is to buy another back wheel. ($37) The new wheel was easy to put on, only took 10 mins.

Maybe the last wheel was defective. I will update later if this new wheel goes quickly.

2 Stars Battery Issues
I bought one of these for my 6 year old. He used it for a year and loved it. It worked well. However, over the winter I stored it indoors in my basement to avoid freezing temps here in New England. When I brought it out in the spring, the battery would not hold a charge at all - completely dead. The only authorized repair center was too far away for me. I bought an exact replacement battery online for $75 and installed it. It worked, but the motorcycle only goes half as fast as it did before. I read some similar reviews elsewhere with someone going to the company for 4-5 more new batteries within days of purchasing a new bike before finding one that worked properly. My son won’t even ride it anymore because its so slow.

I’m not sure I would spent the money on this again knowing I will only get a years worth of use from it without investing more money in it just to keep it running. It is a toy after all. Very disappointed in the quality of this and all toys today. We took extra good care of this maintenance wise. Does anyone make anything that lasts or stand behind their products anymore?
